Saturday, February 8

  • Austin
    Austin Mountain Bike Patrol. 9 AM to12 noon. The AMBP promotes safety and user awareness while on the trails. They offer minor medical and mechanical assistance to all trail users, when needed. Everyone is welcome to ride with the AMBP. A bicycle helmet, mechanically sound bike, water and the love of mountain biking are the only requirements to ride along with the patrol.   • Bertram
    Tour de Longhorn Caverns. 28, 45, and 53 miles, intermediate level ride, 9 AM. The 28-mile route loops clockwise from Bertram to Burnet. The 45-mile route goes to Longhorn Caverns State Park and back. The 53-mile route completes a larger loop on beyond the Caverns and passes through Burnet twice. Meet in Bertram near, but not in, the old Post Office parking lot on Vaughn. For Austin: go north on Hwy 183 to Hwy 29. Go left on Hwy 29 to Bertram. For more information contact Steve (512)260-0943.
  • Dallas
    30 to 40 moderately paced miles, 9 AM. Meet at Mountain View College, Illinois and Duncanville Roads. Meet in the west parking lot, enter off Duncanville Road. Ride usually contains some good hills. Optional lunch follows. No ride if below 40° or raining. Jim Manning (972) 283-3745.
  • Fort Worth
    Muddy, Doggy, Stinky. 18, 33, 50, and 55 miles, terrain not specified, 9 AM. Apparently aptly named in regard to what is encountered plus the addition of a hog farm. Still it sounds interesting. Begins from the “Park and Ride” lot at the edge of Spinks Airport in south Fort Worth. From Ft. Worth: take I-35W south from I-20 to the Alsbury exit.   • Plano
    Up to 33 moderately paced miles group ride, 9:30 AM. Meet at 661 18th St. Distances up to 31 miles, depending on the skill of the riders. No one gets dropped. Two rest stops. For more information contact James Loomis, (972)279-6640.

  • Dallas
    Sunday TEBR. 25 to 35 moderately paced miles group ride, 9:30 AM. TEBR is the Greater Dallas Bicyclists Tuesday Evening Bike Ride. This Sunday morning edition will meet at the NE corner of Preston and Royal across from Border's Books. Please park in the middle of the parking lot at that intersection. Pace is 15 mph average or better. Route varies 20-35 miles, unmapped. Helmets required. Casual lunch afterward at a local restaurant. For more information contact Joy Westerhouse, (972)669-0346.
  • Dallas
    12 easy paced miles group ride, 3 PM. Come out for a great ride and enjoy an easy pace that will be lots of fun. If you want to experience the great outdoors and biking, but don't want to worry about the speed, this ride is for you. Group will meet at the Tennis Courts at Churchill Park on Breckenridge between Churchill and Helsem Way. Optional dinner after the ride at a local restaurant.   • Liberty Hill
    Milmor’s Man. 30, 58, and 72 miles, 9 AM. Fun and challenging ride. The longer ride drops through the stunning Cow Creek Valley, on to Marble Falls, and finally climbs back through the Oatmeal region. Meet at the Liberty Hill Elementary School on Loop 332, just west of downtown Liberty Hill. For more information contact Rick (512)423-3562.

Saturday, February 15

  • Dripping Springs
    24 and 52 miles, intermediate level ride, 9 AM. Ride from Dripping Springs to Johnson City. Follow the back roads through the undulating Hill Country landscape to Johnson City. Mountain bike riders can take a 32 mile route over gravel roads. Meet at Dripping Springs Intermediate (old) School, on the north side of Hwy 290, about 3/10 of a mile west of the traffic light at Hwy 12. The school is on Loop 64.   • Grand Prairie
    Mileage not specified, 9 AM. Join Andy and Jim at Joe Pool Lake. The route goes through the beautiful Lake Ridge development, through Britton, then the edge of Mansfield. Pedaling across the dam is an option and longer routes are available. The ride starts at the Marina, 5700 Lake Ridge Parkway in Grand Prairie.     Lockhart Barbecue Run. 29, 54 or combination loops, 9 AM. Routes pass through scenic post oak covered rolling hills and can be enjoyed by riders of all abilities.   • Venus
    Tour de Wampus Cats. 30, 52, and 65 miles 9 AM. Ride through beautiful Ellis and Johnson counties in search of the elusive Wampus Cats. Park in the lot on the Southwest corner of the square. For more information contact Mark and Liz Wessels (817) 275-5029.

Sunday, February 23

  • Fort Worth
    Benbrook Lake State Park. 45 gentle hilled, moderately paced miles, 9 AM. Ride starts at the Fort Worth Stockyards and rolls down Trinity Bike trail and along the west shoreline of Lake Benbrook. The ride is approx. 45 mils, half on the trail and half on the road. The trail is suitable for road bikes, but with some sharp turns and pedestrian bridges; a big improvement over the White Rock Trail. The ride will depart the Back 40 parking lot at the Stockyards Station in Fort Worth. Meet at the north end of the parking lot near the restaurants. Optional lunch afterward.   • Bastrop
    Pedal Through The Pines 2003 [info] 8, 15, 50, and 63 miles, 9 AM. Registration is from 6:30-8:30 AM. Sagged, rest stops, course cleared at 4 PM. Money benefits the Family Crisis Center, Preservation of the Bastrop Historical Project, and Lance Armstrong Foundation. 8 mile loop perfect for kids and families, while the 15, 28, 50, and 63 mile loops provide both beautiful scenery and challenging terrain through the Bastrop State Park and Bastrop’s surrounding countryside.   • Baytown
    Gator Bike Ride 2003 [info] [on-line registration] 10, 30, 40 and 60 miles, 7:30 AM. Registration begins at 6AM. Staggered start, non-competitive ride that raises money to benefit the YMCA's Youth Subsidy Programs. Ride begins at Goose Creek Stream Park at 1300 West Texas Avenue in Baytown, Texas.   • Bertram
    26 to 55 miles 9 AM. Ride the gentle hills of the Edwards Plateau all the way to Lake Victor. Plenty of cattle guards, hills and scenery make this a memorable ride. Meet in Bertram, 10 miles northwest of Liberty Hill on Hwy 29 near the new City Hall on Vaugh. For more information contact Steve (512)260-0943.

  • Austin
    25, 50, and 69 rolling to flat miles, 9 AM. Ride in rolling to flat countryside southeast of Austin. The longest ride goes all the way to Lockhart.   • Grand Prairie
    Mileage not specified, 9 AM. Join Andy and Jim at Joe Pool Lake. The route goes through the beautiful Lake Ridge development, through Britton, then the edge of Mansfield.   • Abilene
    21, 32, and 48 miles, 10 AM. Short two are fun rides, while the 48 miler is a race/tour. Registration starts at 8 AM. Parking is available at Nelson Park. Restrooms are available at the park. Saturday, April 12

  • Dallas
    Lancaster County Ride. 26, 45, and 63 flat to rolling hill miles. Route traverses a variety of terrain, from flats to rolling hills. Enjoy the bluebonnets which are normally in bloom in April. Longer routes take you along what is called the Bluebonnet Trail. For more information contact Mark O'Leary, the ride coordinator or Mike Lovas.

April 17-20

  • Kerrville
    30th Annual Easter Hill Country Ride [info] [registration] [web form]. Three days of bicycle rides hosted by the Houston Bicycle Club, Lubbock Bicycle Club, Fort Worth Bicycle Assoc., and the San Antonio Wheelmen. Typically attracts 800 to 1200 cyclists yearly. Ride traverses the most beautiful and challenging roads in Texas. Various ride lengths each day with Saturday being Century Day. Sunday is a short day, with only one rest stop and the route closes after the last rider. The routes are primarily on lightly-traveled ranch roads with only short distances on any highways. All of the rides are fully-supported and sagged, with numerous rest stops. Post ride entertainment. For more information contact David Dick or Chris Hebert.
